How to add page numbers to a PDF

Page numbering sounds simple, but it is a specific workflow. If each page needs different numbers, a dedicated tool is cleaner than typing one repeated footer string.

Use a page-number tool when the number changes on every page

A repeated footer can place the same text everywhere, but it cannot turn page 1 into page 2, 3, and 4 automatically. If your document needs a real sequence, open PDF 페이지 번호 추가 instead of treating numbering as static footer text.

Choose a format that matches the document

Some files only need simple numbering such as 1, 2, 3. Others read better with formats like 1 / 10 or Page 1 of 10. Reports, review packets, and handouts often need the total page count to keep references clear.

Position matters for readability

Bottom-center numbering is common, but not always the best choice. Existing footers, scans with dark edges, or document stamps can make another position easier to read. Top, bottom, left, center, and right options help you fit the number into the layout instead of forcing the layout to fit the number.

Start numbers do not always begin at 1

Sometimes the visible numbering should begin later than the actual first page in the file. For example, a cover page may remain unnumbered in the printed design, while the report body should begin at 1. A page-number tool is more useful when it lets you control the starting value directly.
