How to Fix Sideways Pages in a Scanned PDF
Fix sideways or upside-down scanned PDF pages by rotating individual pages in the browser, saving the correction, and knowing what rotation cannot repair.
Short answer
Use PDFresh X-Ray when only some pages are sideways or upside down. Rotate the affected pages in the page list and export a new PDF with those rotations saved.
Why it happens
Receipts, forms, landscape pages, and mixed paper sizes are often fed into a scanner in different directions. The PDF can look mostly correct except for a few pages that need 90, 180, or 270 degree rotation.
View rotation vs saved rotation
Many PDF readers let you rotate the current view without changing the file. That can be enough for reading, but the page may still open sideways for the next person. PDFresh writes the selected rotation into the exported copy.
PDFresh workflow
Open X-Ray, choose the file, find each sideways thumbnail, click Rotate until it is upright, remove unwanted pages if needed, then export and reopen the checked PDF to confirm the result.
Tested example
A mixed scan with portrait pages and two sideways landscape forms was reviewed in the browser. Rotating those two pages once corrected their orientation in the exported PDF while the other pages kept their original direction.
Failure cases
Some PDFs contain unusual page boxes or existing rotation metadata. A page can appear corrected in one viewer but still look different in another, so check the exported file in the app where it will be shared.
Limits
Page rotation does not deskew tilted text, sharpen a blurry scan, crop black borders, or fix an image that was photographed at an angle.
